Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Sometimes ------
(too often!!!!) -----
people who have
no ability to parent,
have children.
Tragically, that's
what happened
in your family-of-
origin. (That's
what happened
in mine.)
Some day, if you
do the emotional
repair that will help
you throughout your
lifetime, you can turn
around and be for
yourself what your
mother should
have been. (It
really is possible
to do that. Age is
not a factor.)
Your mother will
never be able to
give you the
mothering to
which you were
born entitled. But
someday, you can
(re-) do that, for
yourself.
Hugs and healing
wishes.
connecting with
a highly qualified
clinician, and then
focusing on and
working hard to
do the kinds of
critical thinking
and exercises
that enable someone
to unravel and process
emotional injuries.
Some of those things
(particularly for a young
adult), are to learn how
to be self-reliant when
making decisions, how
to detect toxicity in potential
relationships, and how to
practice SELF-CARE
during every hour of
every day of your life
going forward.
These insights and
skills don't develop
overnight. They happen
by learning things,
incorporating those
new things into our
routine, and making
the new insights
our new habits.
Yes, it's a tall order.
But the earlier you
begin the journey,
the sooner you'll
see positive change
and better feelings.
Even if you're the most
intelligent young adult
on your block, it really,
really helps to find a
psychologist whose
specialty is helping
people recover from
damaging families-of-
origin, and then doing
what it takes to repair
the damage that's
been done, within
your psyche.
Sending you hugs
and wishes for
healing and all
good things.
Your parents will
not be changing.
YOU have to be
the one to make
changes.
I hope you will
consider taking
steps to reach out
to a trustworthy
adult, as we all
have been suggesting
to you since you began
sharing your story with us.
