If a nice friend, one whom you knew was too good for you, had bought tickets to a tribute concert and it was this weekend and you just really did not have it in you to go, besides making sure you refunded thier money, what else would you do to make it up to them?
I am sure I will most likely lose this friend, most everyone walks away sooner or later, but he is a geniunely decent person and I don't want him to hate me. It is really my issue and nothing to do with him.
I have just decided it is best for anyone good to stay away from me right now. I don't know how to explain that to him without hurting his feelings.

I agree with MTC as well. If you do not want to go, then you should not go. If he insists on buying tickets when you told him you don't want to go, then you don't need to pay him back for them either.

I sent the man a message via facebook as we are friends there apologizing to him for any inconvenience and offering to repay him for the ticket as I am just responsible in that way. I also told him if he was upset about things or offended in anyway that I would understand if he no longer wanted to remain in contact with me. That I appreciated the friendship he had shown me and I wished him well.

He was surprised that I would think he would not want to remain friends and said the ticket was no big deal. He had someone willing to buy it and of course he wished to remain in touch and friends. He was not offended in anyway. He realizes I am going through alot and to take care of ME.

I still think he needs to run as far away from me as possible but that I guess is his choice. If he reaches out I will write back or text back, but I am right now just planning on alone in my world, walls up, focusing on surviving. Thanks for all advice.
