Phobia Support Group
A phobia (from the Greek "fear"), is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities, or persons. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, or if the fear is interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety disorders can be made.

Hello everyone,
I am new to the group, so I wanted to just put myself out there... I have a strange fear of choking to death on my food, I find myself struggling to eat because of it.. Everytime I eat, I go into a small panic attack and it literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. Has any one else felt this way before or is experiencing this currently??

88FIn 1969 we decided to get married without a big wedding. Most of our friends and family liked large over the top for the time kind of weddings and I did not. First, I didn't see why spending so much money for one day when we have the rest of our lives to live. I have never regretted not having a big formal wedding. Another issue is not liking all the attention. Also, we have gone to big...

It's going to get hotter here with Thursday being the hottest. It's noon and 75f feels more like 80 or more.I've been cleaning up the deck in this morning and cleaning the windows outside. Then I cut up a pallet in half, I've decided to call it quits now because I went a bit light headed. Joanne, some drugs we take have an effect on us in the heat, I know a couple of mine do, maybe yours...

I think if I would have done something about it early on I might have been able to get past it. But now every day is miserable and drugs don't help. Some have recommended a hypnotist and I would surely try that before the horrible anti-anxiety drugs that are not good for you at all. But maybe your Dr. could give you something very mild and it just might help if this problem has just started. And please do not wait to long.
I wish you all the best.
get it widened inside. He struggled to get food down.
I so understand what you are talking about but this is such a different situation. Most of us with anxiety of swallowing are able to finally get the food down with much chewing, thinking and praying to not choke.
Butterfly, whenever I tell docs about my problem they just look at me like I have two heads. And then pretty much ignore it. There is no one who could ever understand it unless they live it. And I would never wish it on my worst enemy.
I so wish you well.
I feel for you and I wish I had an answer for you on why we fear this but all I can offer is your not alone, stay strong we can get through this!
