The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

June 7th seems a lifetime ago since I held my babyboy.Last sat we got a new friend for Keegan, he was so depressed that I knew we had to do something.I didnt do it for me I did it for keegan..Today I went to my Giz's final resting place to tell him I hadnt forgotten him, I cry every morning on my way from work I miss him so much..I still hurt so badly inside , just ache for him, I went to his website and just stared into his eyes begging him to understand why I had to bring another baby into this home.I feel like I'm betraying him..I saw keegan going downhill fast even on meds he was slowly leaving me and I was afraid for my other baby boy..he is coming around slowly with the new little guy,,I miss my giz so much and the guilt is still there eating away at me and I still feel so very empty without him..I say his name out loud every morning on my way from work..we dont say Giz at home, Keeg will look around for him but I need to say it out lous, I need to hear his name and I need him to know I love him so very much..I've lost many adults in my life and did not feel this way ..I guess that is because the love of an animal is a pure unconditional love..I miss you so much my Gizzy MoMo

I lost my little dog acouple of weeks go and I know how you feel. She always jumped in my lap no matter where I sat and slept with me every night. At 5:30 a.m. this morning my daughter heard me crying and came to my bedroom. She said it's worrying her about my not being able to get past this. I can't get past this. I tpp; like you, have lost adult humans that didn't get to me this bad. Bit-Bit's unconditional love will be missed. It will take us a long time to get used to the idea that they are gone. The aren't just dogs or just cats.......they are our children and you don't get over the death of your child in a few days!!!! Lots of hugs!

I'm very sorry for your loss and understand exactly how you feel.

We had to put our 13 year-old lab to sleep last Saturday and now I'm in a funk. We didn't realize she was as sick as she was.

Our other dog is 12.5 and has nerve damage in her back so she can't get walk very well. She's lost and overly clingy. It's really tough.....

Im so sorry for your loss!! Im sure Gizzy knows how much you love him!! And, Dont feel like you have betrayed him. Im glad to hear keegan is comming along with the new pup, obviously he loves Gizzy very much too. Big hugs hun!

We lost our 6 year old Pinky a week ago. It was very sad and very unexpected. Our home was so empty we couldn't stand to go home. Last wednesday we bought two baby chihuahuas to help fill the void. I felt guilty about getting new puppies so soon, but we need them. We couldn't bare to go home after work or wake up in the morning without her there. I cry for Pinky and miss her greatly. I am sure your Gizzy loved you very much. Gizzy would want you to be happy. That is the way my husband and I try to look at it. We still weep about our loss, but we find ourselves smiling some in having puppies to take care of. We have to take it one day at a time.

What a beautiful little dog. I like seeing the photos of everyone's pets and I'm dealing with the loss too. I'm sorry I know it hurts and I'm thankful for all the stories that everyone is sharing.

I cannot imagine anything more sweet and cute and two chihuahuas puppies. OMG. I have three other dogs, but they do not seem to take away my pain. They keep me hopping and living and not sinking into depression. The other most sweetest thing was Christian the Lion on You Tube. The Lion is in the wild and remember his two boys that adopted him and runs and hugs them over and over. It is enough to make you believe in love. I do anything that makes me feel better...I don't care what it is. I give myself permission to cry when I want, where I want and not beat myself up. Every time I go outside I see butterfly Gizziesmom. That makes me feel great.
