The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

Simba is 6 months-old and last night got attacked by another cat in the garden. He's only got some scratches on a paw and paw-pad luckily. He was spitting and growling even when the cat was chased away and once home he went to hide in his cat-basket (the one for the vet). I cleaned his paw and left him to sleep, keeping Lucky his brother away. This morning he didn't want to get out of the box, didn't want my cuddles or Lucky's attention. He's asleep behind the cushions on the sofa. No sign of warm nose or other wound, paw probably a bit painful but ok. Is my poor baby traumatised? Any tips as what I should do?

I think I would take him to the vet for a quick check up if he doesn't improve within a day. Hope he is OK! (((Hug)))

I too would suggest having a check up with the vet-he could have an infection from the injury

so sorry this happened to your baby...I bet he is traumatized...do you know whose cat attacked him? I would be worried about rabies myself....but that is highly unlikely if your kitty is vaccinated which I would assume yes on....but thing is give more time to him...he hadn't thought of himself as a target to anything bad happening because you just give love love love....anyway I would be Leary of letting him outside for a while...

Merci! I've started helping in a cat charity and the lady gave me some cream for Simba's paw. It's better and it'll take a few more days according to her for all the nastyness to come out :( But baby-lion is quite perky, goes out and runs after insects and all that moves! He's not back to his carefree self but I hope he'll be when the pain's completely gone! Thanks all for caring!

He might end up with an abscess. He could be running a fever and that's why he's not himself. Cat claws have lots of bacteria. It's common for a cat to get an abcess after an attack. You can't always see the puncture so keep a close eye on him. Take his temp if you can it sould be around 101. If he has an abcess and it breaks irrigate the hole with peroxide really good.
