The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

Since my Cookie left and went to the Rainbow bridge. I want to Thank this Forum for being here. In the beginning, I came on daily and it was the only place that I felt understood without judgement. That was soooo important and needed as I don't have children and loosing Cookie was like loosing my only child. I was devastated. I have met great people and now have another puppy to love. Praying that each of you find peace.

Amazing how our pets bring such joy. I think for me it is their undying loyalty to us. It has been almost five months for me and the sadness hits me at different times. Mostly when I come home from work and she is not there to greet me which she did for over 14 years. Seems like yesterday I was bringing her home and she fell asleep on my lap. She was never a bit of trouble and made me so happy.
She had to have a torn tendon operated on once and she stayed two days at the vet. I knew then how much I missed her it would be terrible when she passed away.

it is never fun to go thru the death of any pet or human....and when the pet is an adopted family member it is like they are a human...I agree very tough....hugs and know that rainbow bridge happiness abounds for your loved pet....hugs

I have read that members friends don't understand what they're feeling because they haven't lost a pet/family member,but here,those whom post here-have lost one and know what it is like

I will be dreading that anniversary. But hitting the one-year mark means youve made it through all the firsts. Thats a positive.
