The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

It was nice to have the support of those on this site when my best friend Maxine passed away in May 2014 after more than 14 years as the best dog anyone could wish for.

I had not been feeling too well before and after her death and after months of treatment I have been diagnosed with a debilitating brain disease of which there is no cure. Although the doctors will not put a time limit on it, past cases have shown a life expectancy of no more than a couple of years.

I just wanted to thank all those on here who helped me through the rough times since Maxine passed away. I will keep hoping for a reversal of my disease as there is always hope. I wish the best for those on this site, it shows there is a lot of good in this world.

Oh Andy, no!!!!! It's so unfair! I'm so so sorry for what's happening to you! Hard to know what to say except that we're here for you!

wow what can I say....I am sorry you lost maxine and now to be in such a sorted way looking at your own life as coming to end is scary that is for sure....I know Maxine is waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge and you will hopefully meet when you are ready and not a moment before just that perfect time....

so sorry your sickness is not going to allow you to have another fur baby to love....It just seems that I would not have one if I knew I would be leaving them as I want to stick around long enough that my dogs are gone before me...
sorry that did not come out right I don't know what to say here and I know you prob would not want to die leaving a pet in someone else's hands....
