Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
and still is but i bought a new puppy named joey and all the work it takes for this little guy is keeping my mind busy
he is so sweet and keeps me going
i thought i could never love another and im already in love with him 14 week old beagle
hugs to you and i think another little one is what you should do jean
Our beloved dog passed away 3 months ago and it is still VERY
painful. Just now a fire truck zoomed by and it only reminds me of Cujo tilting his hear back and HOWLING.
Your doggie sounds like our doggie. He helped our adult son to deal with his deep depression. He was 13 years old when he passed away. We were all circled around him at home when he passed away We each got to tell him how much we loved him and what a wonderful job he did for our son.
It sounds like your dogs mission was to be there for YOU. Now like our son you can show your dog that what he did here on this earth has paid off big time for you. He would want only the best for YOU!!!!!!!
We grieved our Cujo and still remember him so lovingly. Now we
can talk and share wonderful memories (like the fire truck) without
bursting into tears. It will take some time for you to mourn your friend. Take that time! We were not ready to run out and get another pet. Some are others need time.
Praying for your heart today!
I've had 3 big cat losses in my life. It doesn't get any easier. You can't replace any with another, but I've learned in time that you can love another pet and bond in a very different way. My first big loss was Cazzie who was 17 yo when he died quietly in the bed beside me. I was in a state of shock really. I called a friend in the middle of the night to help me. I went into a deep depression and the vet was worried about me. I went to a grief support group every week at the SF/SPCA for 6 months. After a year I felt ready to adopt another cat.
I adopted 2 cats this time, so different from Cazzie, but in time the bonds form again. What was so traumatizing about their loss was that one of them got Cancer at 13 yo, and I went through chemotherapy with him for 2 months hoping for a miracle. During this time, my other cat, also 13, came home with an incurable liver problem and I wound up having to put him to sleep while I was treating my other for Cancer.
To make a long story short, I now have 2 6 year old cats that I love and adore just as much as my previous babies, something I never, ever expected. I'm not sure I can take another loss; all I know is that I lover them now and that's all I can do.
I'm so sorry.
Well it's been 5 days since I put my feline furbaby Tigger to sleep, and it feels so much longer than that.......every little thing I do reminds me of him. Last night I got some knitting out as my cousin-in-law is pregnant and I was going to knit a little cardigan for the baby.....and I started to cry, Tigger would come running as soon as he heard the knitting needles, he would go mad for them, chasing them around and around.....used to be a game we would play as soon as i got them out, this time there was no-one there to play it with me..........
We have a 11 month old puppy which we've had since 8 weeks old, so Tigger got to know her, and she is what is keeping me going at present......she and Tigger used to get on so well......we have pictures of them sharing a bone......think she is missing him as well - this weekend we got her a bone, but she has ignored it more or less.....think it reminds her of Tigger and how they used to share a bone........
We have said we would like a playmate for Alexi, but that Tigger wouldn't cope with another puppy or older dog, and said once Tigger had gone we would think about it - we will probably rehome a dog/puppy - but I don't feel the time is right yet - it would just feel like we were replacing Tigger. My neighbors breed guinea pigs, and Jane wants one of them, `to keep our rabbit company', but I feel she is doing it in order to replace Tigger, I know she isn't......but it feels like she is just trying to replace him........
I know Tigger had a good life, and what I did was for the best, but I still feel really bad for taking his life........when he gave me so much......
One day maybe it was ease.........I just hope it's soon.....maybe when I get his ashes back that will help .........
Thanks again everyone for your support
