The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
Teigan is now gone to heaven to meet his brother Carson. Teigan had just got a clean bill of health in January. I went away on holidays end of March. My daughters best friend was staying at my house looking after my dogs. I had been gone 3 days when disaster happened. She found Teigan collapsed in the backyard unable to get up and walk. She rushed him to the emerg and was told there was nothing they could do for him. He had been full of cancer and the tumours had collapsed his lung and the sack around his heart. He was in grave condition. She had no alternative, but to have him euthenized. The vet in January and prior to that had made a terrible error, and did not find anything wrong with Teigan. He had a tumour on the outside of his body and I had asked her many times if he was going to be ok. She sd the tumour was on the outside under the skin and would not affect his internal organs. I was told later by a different veterinarian, that had she done blood tests, it would have shown the cancer. Had I known how sick my little guy was, first, I would have never left him. Secondly, I would never have let him get to the point were his lung had collapsed and he was suffering. I would have had him euthenized prior to all this happening. I also would never have let this happen to my daughters friend. It was horrifying to her to have to see Teigan like this and have to make a decision on her own. This is the second vet that I have trusted with my dogs life, and now I don't know who to trust anymore. I am just devastated. I miss him so very much. He was unlike any other dog. He had to always be a part of me. If I was sitting on the couch, he not only had to be beside me, he had to have his paw touching me. I will never ever get over losing him in such a horrible way. I miss my little guy with all my heart!!!!!!
Don't be too hard on yourself, remember you did what you thought was best with the information that you had. Your love and devotion to Teigan is what gave him the strength to go on. Maybe it would have been too hard for Tiegan to have seen you upset when all this happened and it was actually a blessing that someone else was there. Hugs and God Bless!
