The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

Lost my service dog, Hoss, to cancer. I am having real trouble dealing with the loss. He saw me through a lot of bad times in the short 10 years he was with me. Can't stop crying. My therapist is on speed dial.....

I was unable to function when Sebastian Kitty left. Their leaving is such a painful time.
Please drink lots of water, so you don't dehydrate from tears. And plan meals for each day, so your body stays nourished.
I had to ask my Dr. for help for anxiety. I could not sleep more that a couple of hrs and I would wake and feel the forlorn loss....this is just a difficult time we have to traverse!
Taking short walks each day was helpful for me.
I had red swollen eyes for a long time. I didn't care ...I just had to allow myself to mourn freely.
