Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
I've had a pet dove since I was 11-12 years old (I turn 25 this year). For the last couple of weeks, he had gotten very sick and slowly day by day he had just been worse and worse. First he stopped cooking, then he seemed to lose the ability to fly, then his mobility became more and more limited. He lost so many feathers and his backside became raw. I did everything I could to take care of him even though I had no pet insurance nor access to a vet that treated birds. Even following valid advice online could do but so much. I kept his enclosure clean routinely and made sure he had appropriate food and water. So for the past few weeks, it felt like I was taking care of a hospice patient. Towards the end, he started to have seizure like movements. This whole process has felt so traumatic that it's triggered flashbacks to when my dad was on hospice and I had to watch him die in my home right in front of me. Even their last symptoms matched my father's. Add on to the fact that I've been severely struggling with my mental health and financial situation for the past couple of months, I feel like there's nothing else in me anymore. My poor friend passed this morning and my mom and brother agreed to help give him a proper burial. I received Birdy when I was in middle school as a spunky and sweet pet full of personality. I never really had friends growing up and he helped me cope with loneliness since I've always loved animals. I have tears in my eyes even while typing this. I can't look at pictures of him or think about him without crying. I just feel really alone about all this. He lived a long like and I hope he rests well...

I just applied for a job that is closer to home and more aligned with my college degree and work experience. It's part-time, but the pay is way better, and I hope to get it.

My sister-in-law called yesterday. She had some bad news about her job and wanted to let me know that they are coming for a visit at the end of October. Then she went on and on and on about her job! She only calls about 3 times a year so I didn't want to cut her off but I didn't have an hour and forty-five minutes to spare. I barely got a word in edgewise. Why don't people realize when...
