The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

Its getting colder now and I hate it..Its like June 7th all over again. Way before I lost my Giz I would say to my husband I didnt know what I'd do if I lost one of my boys and had to bury them in the backyard, he'd tell me not to think about things like that , well it happened , My Giz was afraid of the dark so I have solar lights around his garden, he hated to be wet and cold , we'd sit outside with him bundled on my lap in my sweater, hes buried wrapped in my bathrobe with he just loved, my anxiety is now its cold and soon it will snow and I cant stand the thought that my baby is out there, where snow will cover him and we have so much snow here that I wont be able to get to his grave, I will be able to see it from the deck but I have to be able to see him, talk to him, sometimes this is too overwhelming for me ,I cant stand feeling this way , and I caused it..I feel so guilty being in here where its warm , God today I miss him so very much every day it seems worse , ..because its cold and I cant hold him close to me

You're not losing it, at least not in my opinion. I'm new to this group, which I found almost two whole years after losing my Dorrie, a 13-year-old former stray cat. I also had the option of burying Dorrie in a huge rural back yard. I chose not to.

For a long time afterward, my choice bothered me. But now I know it was the right one. You might consider asking a family member or good friend to re-inter Gizzie in a place where the pain won't be such a visible daily reminder.

Thank you for your reply, I cant move him, its the only way I am surviving being near him, I have to be able to see him, I sit and talk with him, for me tending to all the flowers helps but I cant handle not being able to be near him..and for me I should feel pain , I feel responsible for his passing, and yes many have told me I am not but nothing can change how I feel I'm his mom and I should have protected him, sorry so down , just seems to be my standard mood these days, welcome to the group they are a wonderful bunch of people and it does help while I am here ..Thank you and I am also very sorry for your loss Bonni

I know just how you feel. You are not 'losing it'. The fact that you feel the way you do just shows how much you love Giz and how connected you were and will always be. Remember that Giz is warm and happy now and you will definately be re-united with him again one day in heaven. I am sure of that. Your love for him is too strong for that not to happen. My mum said to me recently, after my deeply loved Jack Russell Terrier, Toby passed away: "Remember that energy never dies." So do talk to Giz, he is around you and loves it when you talk to him. But please don't think he is cold. He is in paradise and knows how much you love him.

I get this. My Lei-Lei was cremated and is on my nightstand, in a tiny box. I see "her" every morning and every night. Sometimes it comforts me knowing she is so close by. Other times I look at that tiny box and think "is that all that is left of my BabyGirl"? It is a double edged sword. You, and probably all of us, are going to have similar thoughts. Whether our pets are buried or cremated we all still have these feelings at times.Right now you are worried about your Giz being in the cold ground, while I worry about mine being in a tiny box, just a small, powdered handful of what she used to be. Really, is there any difference? Grief is grief, loss is loss. The final resting place shouldn't matter, but I know how you feel. I'm sure everyone here does. At least we know "where" our babies are. I must admit I feel more sympathy for those of you with "missing" babies. Not knowing "where" their babies are has got to be worse for them, than for us who do know. Just a thought... Peace

You ARE NOT "LOOSEING IT" sweetie!
I have Three (3) of my beloved babies Barried in a "Pet Memorial Garden" and it KILLS be that they are there and I am here and I HATE not being able to be with them as often as I know I should be but I am rambling and I AM SORRY for this site just tears me up and I want so much to COMFORT you all instead I end up being the BASKET!
I want you to know your NOT alone in your feelings I raise CATS and they are MY LIFE!
and I am NOT making ANY sense here and I really am sorry but I think the tears are effecting my thoughts!
