The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

I miss my Cookie

I put down my Cookie on Saturday 10/19/13 after her battle with Cushings Disease. She was a Loving Doggie/Companion/Best Friend/Child for 12 years. She was a Pekingese/Poodle mix. My Husband and I can't have children and she is our baby. This leaves my heart broken. Although, I know it was the best thing because she was in pain. I never wanted her to live in pain. That's not a life at all. I feel so empty without her. Our house is so quiet. I feel lost. I'm used to walking her at night before we turn on the House alarm. She would wake us in the morning, that's why we get up to turn the alarm off. Those are the worst times of day for me. I have heard her dog tags and looked around with glee hoping to see her run towards me. I sit on the floor and call her name because I just want some kisses. I loved my Cookie. I would have given a winning lottery ticket to have a healthy Cookie for more years. I miss her.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Cookie sounds like she had a great life and was loved very much. I think even those of us with children (mine are grown) understand feeling like your baby was your child. I know I felt that way with my Lady, losing her left a huge hole in my heart. I lost my baby girl 3 months ago and am still going through the grieving process. It takes time to adjust to life without them. I still feel Lady at times and swear I've heard her cough or make those sounds when she's having a doggie dream. I think hearing her dog tags means she was there offering you comfort.
Coming here and making friends and sharing your story will help you heal. I know it's helped me immensely. I was inconsolable when I lost my baby girl after 16 years of her being by my side.

We all know how difficult this time is, so I'm glad I was able to put a smile on your face. Call me selfish, but I didn't think 16 years was long enough. If it wasn't for her heart problems, I think she would still be around. Hurts to think about. Your dog reminds me of Lady with the eyes and smile. I am thankful for the love we had and how much richer she made my life. I carry her in my heart wherever I go.

so sorry for you loss..but as you said she is in no pain now and at peace..i have a old dog with cushings so i know your struggles..welcome to the group but i wish you didnt have to be here!.

Thank you so much Aussiechick! I wish you all the best with your Doggie and that terrible Cushings Disease. My baby was so vibrant before it came and took all of her desire to enjoy life. I pray that you have a different outcome. Sending hugs your way...

im so sorry for your loss,i know what your going through,i lost my dog clay 4 months ago and its been the hardest thing ive ever gone through,he was 7, he got pancreasitis.my heart is broken.its been so hard getting used to him being gone,its like a huge hole,an empty space that just cant be filled,he was my baby(i have 2 girls) but he was my little boy and i love him the same as my children.i have often thought i heard clay lapping his water or a squeak of one of his toys,its so weird.joining this site and writing here and getting replys and making friends here has helped me so much,its been my rock.....again im so sorry for your loss and remember your not alone xx

Losing a pet-a companion is horrible,but I think more so for people who have no children or other family.
it has been years since losing our other dogs but I still catch myself going to call their names and we even have another dog at this time.
I'm not trying to be discouraging-just sharing that it happens to everyone.
Sending an internet hug and to let you know you did have to help your furry friend by not suffering anymore. And that you aren't alone thru this.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your precious girl. I lost my baby four months ago and I miss him so much I can't breathe sometimes. Coming here and journalling and receiving support from my wonderful friends here has been my lifeline. You're not alone. Hugs, take care!
