Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

My 9 year old (black lab)Kala girl passed 4 days ago .
We were together day & night "glued at the hip" as my husband would say. Kala was our 1st puppy/dog, I got her to fill the void after we became empty nester's. She more than filled the void.
We went to bed on Wednesday night and everything was fine,. The next morning I had to help her get up. I don't know what could have happened? I took her to the vet 1st thing, vet gave her a shot ( as we thought she had an infection gave us an rx and said to call her in the morning to let her know how she was doing, well within 6 hours I had to take her back in as she became limp. All day I had that sick to my stomach feeling I was going to lose her.
I'm so lost with out her and after losing my other best friend mom just 6 months ago has made it that much worse. We sold our home after mom passed, moved in with dad till we found a place a day we did, it has nice yard that Kala would have loved., I was so excited for her to see her new yard and the trail right behind the house . Now none of it matters anymore to me. I cry day and night, I miss her beyond words, I just can't seem to hold it together , I don't sleep as I can't stop thinking about her. We did everything and went everywhere together and I do mean everything and everywhere. I just miss her so much :"'''(

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I promise, it does get easier to deal with. Right now, what youre going through is normal. Dont try to rush yourself through it. Your Kala was unique and special. Once the initial wave of deep grief passes, maybe you can immerse yourself in a project to remember her? I started gathering all my photos of Rupert, organizing them by date. Then I created a book online. I took lots of time with it, revising it over and over. I actually spent over two months on it before finalizing it and ordering it. Coincidentally, it arrived today, and even though I know it by heart now, seeing some of those photos took my breath away! (I got an 11 x 14 book, and some of the photos took up a whole page.) Im going to make it a Christmas/birthday gift for my husband. He hasnt been able to look at many photos of Rupert, but I think by then he will be ready. If not, Im going to tell him to keep it closed until he is ready.
Anyway, its just one idea. For some people, getting involved in something else entirely helps. Work helped me a lot too.
I know it hurts really badly right now, but it will get easier to live with. Just hang on for now.
Perhaps she had some kind of stroke..but you did what you could for her and as glued to you as she was-she loved you just as much as you loved her.
We have to just try to keep going on with our routines,,,some members here have made up memorials of our furry friends-be in a collection of their toys/[pictures-indoors or outdoors. Some have written them a letter and sent it off on a balloon..some have found themselves a stuffed animal to keep within a hug space..
