Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
Your story is so tragic that I'm still in tears. I have a mini Daschund (still don't know how to spell that) who is 8, and my best friend in the world. Naturally, as I read of George, I imagined how I would feel if it were Louis (my pup). I'm overwhelmed by how you all must feel, and I'm so sad.
Last year I went to see Lisa williams - a fairly famous psysic - at an event center. She did several readings from the crowd - and two or three of them were given readings on stage where she saw their pets jumping around demanding recognition. She was able to describe them right down to their breed - or a spot on their back - running around at the feet of their owners on stage. She said that a soul is a soul. And they were fine.
That said, this type of loss takes your breath away. Each day you remind yourself to breathe in and out - and put one foot in front of the other - until it comes naturally. And one day it will. Trust that it will.
I have no advise other than to get a puppy as soon as you can handle it. The type of love that they have to give an animal is rare - and there is a wonderful dog out there that deserves the home that they offer. The healing will be as needed as the comfort and love is from the pup.
So breathe. Have faith. Forgive. And open your hearts again. That's all I have. I wish you all well.
P.S.
They are very lucky to have you.
Lastly, as difficult as it may seem, try not to dwell on what happened to George. Try not to think about what happened to him... If you get together with your brother-in law and sister and talk about all the good and funny things George would do instead, it helps a great deal... you begin to laugh and it helps with the healing. My best wishes to you and your family.
Many hugs to you all.
It seems that we ALL go through this guilt- what could we have done different to protect this helpless creature who depended on us? We did the best we could. And we made their lives as full of live as possible. Please try to find comfort in that.
My husband took my dog to be put to sleep...had I gone and saw this I'd probably be in the funny farm! But I visuize it all the time and switch my thoughts QUICKLY...try your best to know there will be a time in the future you'll be able to greive w/less pain/for now TRY to not think about it. I'm very sorry.......
It is a wonderful site where you can talk to others in a safe and secure chat room and leave a permanant online tribute to your furbaby.
