The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

Gizmo has passed away

I lost Gizmo awhile back he was a handfed Quaker who I finished hand feeding myself. I have a new Quaker trying to think of a name does it seem alright if I name the new one Gizmo as well or would it be an injustice to Gizmo 1. I know I find myself comparing the two of them my first Quaker was a green and my second is blue so there is difference.

I did not know there were blue quaker parrots...I had two green ones....one named bongo and the other was sensei which is Japanese for teacher....both of them learned to say their names....just before I sold them off to move away...I first moved to Guam in 94 with Bongo going to someone else...then on Guam I got Sensei and sold him to move home in 99....I liked Quakers and I made sensei an angry bird who bit hard because I was not skilled at bird care and got him a cloth tube to sleep in and was always grabbing him from the tube when I wanted to cuddle....well he got mean and started biting hard drawing blood even....I sold him after I had him sexed to find out he was male and a lady had a female laying eggs....she got him but I am sure she did not like him because he bit and she couldn't handle him at all...she was older lady in 60s maybe....

I miss birds but for last 14yrs I had a bird dog who was trained to point birds when hunting so I couldn't see having a bird in house....now I lost doc in jan and these two I have now tucker and shep do not know first thing about hunting except where the warmer softer bed is to be found...LOL

I still think I will avoid a bird for now....I had mice problems with my parakeets and they were gaurding their food in cage because mice came into cage to eat their seeds and the pellets of colorful food I gave....I think it was called pretty bird.....

oh and I am sorry about Gizmo....maybe name new bird Bongo!

BOy I didn't know what a quaker was-very sorry to hear of your loss though. Hmm a name for a parrot? BLuebird?

I'm sorry for your loss. My Uncle always had a boxer (he would get another boxer when the last one passed away). He called them all by the same name - Buttons. As a kid, I thought it was the same dog. I see no reason why you shouldn't call your new baby Gizmo, as long as you can separate in your mind, that this is a new Gizmo and not expect the same behaviors. I wish you well with your new blue.

Thank you billwfriend...I now know what a Quacker is...I, too like AnnetteArizona, did not know what a Quacker was...

As for a name...is there a sound he makes or action he makes regularly that would lead to name...maybe name him after a favorite deceased relative...or in the theme if his color --- Azure. Zurrie, Sky...
