The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
I'm wanting to get a tattoo in memory of my husky Rocky. I did a paw print of his paw before he passed on and I've got a lot of pictures of his actual paw so they can size it and be pretty on cue about how it looks and so on... I was telling someone today about it and they laughed in my face, they said it's like i'm wanting to join a gang by having a ''big paw print'' on my body. I was so insulted by their narrow minded answer. GOD! Has anyone got a tattoo of a paw print, if so where did you get it? I'm thinking of my wrist.... I'm in the medical field and wear nothing but short sleeves so it'll show.. Not sure where else to get it. Does anyone have any ideas?

I think thats a very cute thing you want to do in memory of your pet. I dont think it would be stupid or whatever. I got my tattoo on my lowerback, that way i can always hide it, i never have regreted it, but i think i would have if it were always showing. When my dog was a puppy i had her walk in paint and than all over my jeans- it was adorable and i loved wearing them :) I just wish i still had them now :( Rocky is adorable if he is the one in the photo with you!! After my grandma died, I got a tattoo in honor of her on my wrist. I think that really helped me cope with the loss, because now she's with me every day. When I lost Jasper, I took it so much harder. For months, I cried and just felt so hollow inside. I think if I'd gotten a tattoo to honor him, the grieving would have been much easier. I still miss him terribly and am trying to think of the tattoo I can get in memory of him. My sister got a tattoo on her side to remember her cat, and I think that helped her, too. Don't let this person make you second guess yourself. They are probably one of those people that think,"It's just a dog, get over it." Ask any true animal lover, and they'll love your tattoo idea.

I think that would be a great ideal. Don't care what other people think. I don't have any tats. One day I'd like to get one. I'm 43. My daughter(almost 19) says I'm too old. But like I said don't let people tell you what to do or make you sad. I'm sooooooooo sorry for your loss of a beautiful animal. I have 2 dogs myself and my duaghter has one too. She lives at home so I guess I have 3. Be Sweet, Peach

I think that is a great way to remember and honor your pet. I have a clay paw print of my dog Jasper. It was done before he was cremated. It is very special to me.

I think it's a wonderful way to honor Rocky. And when you start to miss him all you would have to do is look at the tattoo of his paw print and smile as you think of all the wonderful memories...

wow how ironic. after my Suzie died my vet took a pawprint of her paw and gave it to me on a card. I wanted a tatoo of her to remember her by but I was not sure what I wanted. I looked at the pawprint and starting looking for ideas off of the internet. from there I got the idea to have the pawprint on my foot to make it look like she stepped on my foot. around it I put my best friend from beginning to end and the date she was born and the date she died. I have other tattoos but this one hurt the most to have done because it was on my foot and it also took longer to heal, but in the end it was all worth it. I think I still have a picture of my tattoo in my profile if you want to look at it.
