Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
I think it's amazing that there is a bird who opted to stay with you. It's possible he was asked by Peanut to watch over you during this difficult time.
Hopefully, over time you will be able to relax and allow yourself time to heal and get the much needed rest. The less you sleep, the worse things will seem. At least that is how it is for me. Peanut crossed over in her sleep, which I'm sure is everyone's wish here, like babyclay's boss' dog.
This is the worst time of year to be going through this (not that there is a good time). Try to get past the last memories and remember the fun you had and love you shared. What you are going through is normal. You are not alone here.
Hugs

I would look at waking up each night at that time is because you miss her so!
You do need to let go of any guilt you're feeling because your little friend wouldn't want you to feel guilty and make yourself sick.
Why not try making a remembrance book or webpage of your little friend-it might help
