If you have capacity for insight, you should be able to identify with one of the cases and at least go from there.

But insanity is not doing the same thing over and over seeking different results although that is a thought among certain self help groups. The ideas there don't constitute a medical diagnosis for insanity.
But you do have a point that first, one should rule out physical causes, like hyperthyroidism, for example.
