Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.

I hope this post makes sense.
I'm seeing a therapist at the moment and I've recently been talking to him about how I find being around men uncomfortable etc. My Mum was in an abusive relationship and obviously I was young when everything was happening but I do remember a lot of it. Thing is...when I'm asked what it is that effects me so much, I feel like there's something else. Something else I can't talk about. When I try and talk about my feelings I get REALLY emotional. I want to cry and get very anxious.
It doesn't feel like me being a witness to what happened with my Mum should have effected me so much. I don't understand it.
Anyone have similar feelings or situations?

That sounds sort of like what I go through sometimes. For me, I think a lot of it has to do with the years and years of denying I had emotions. Stuffing them down inside so often, that when I tried dealing with them I had no idea what was going on. I still have times where I feel something and just quite identify why or what is causing it. I guess just keep talking about it.

Hon, i can only say it takes time to realise how much your mind can keep from you over time, ive got anorexia bpd, depression oh crap so many others and only realised it 2 years ago, it feels as if ive lost a lifetime i never knew and the thing that made me block to bad was abuse, i just thought it was normal to live like that, nothing strange but that is what happens with a lot of abuse victims, emotional or physical, when we are ready to tackle the problem we do start remembering etc, see my parents left me with anorexia, i got it when i was 8/9 and i still don't think it's bad enough to make me what i am today, i feel there must have been something else but if you really think about it, i had anorexia and they didn't help me, didn't get help, didn't talk to me and my mom figures "you wouldn't have listened anyway" so if you like imagine an 8 year old being left with ana, it sorts of make sense now (must say this is after 2 years of therapy) things like this is hard hon, we thought it was normal cos we weren't told otherwise so we don't see what actually happened in most cases

I know you dont know me but I was in a abusive relationship for years. I still cant talk about it. Im embarressed, I hid it for so long. But I got into the realtionship when I was 16. I never had anything to direct me when I was growing up. All I knew was I wanted a real family. So even though I dont want to talk about it, certain things, songs, movies, and even art take me back to that situation. I hope this helps some. I know how hard it is to talk to people about how you feel. sometimes it feels like they will not understand so you keep it inside you.

I often feel confused about my feelings regarding some memories and my lack of emotion about others. It's good you are able to have therapy so you have a safe place to explore this. I hope you feel you've made progress with it very soon.
