Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
If niether has gotten anywhere far in treatment yet I would say its like trying to counter fire with more fire. Toxic is probably the best word as you put it.
Doesnt mean you cant care about each other, but neither of you really has a fair chance.
When I was still very BPD. There was another person in a support group in who had BPD. We tried to be friends outside of the group and it inevitably got rocky and I just had to let it slide by. I know he didnt fully understand his actions and the best thing I could have done was to just not put him through more stress trying to work it out and argue.
I have a friend of many years. She used to be my supervisor @ work & now goes to my church. We have camped together. Shared a lot over time. I sat with her when her husband was near death in the ICU. We are bonded. I love her. BUT I hate her.
She triggers me. I'm not sure exactly what PD she has, but I am sure there is one, or at least some sort of serious mood disorder. She sees a pdoc and therapist.
I really do not want to know her details. It is always a one up contest with her. Who is the sickest. Who has the most shitty horrible past.
She unwittingly can push me over the edge. I don't just think it is me...she has a lot of chaos in her personal life and family....I have learned not to feel safe around her.
I still love her and want to be her friend....but it only works when we are both in a relatively good place and stick to lighter topics.
Analyzing a fellow BPD outside of a therapy group really doesn't work unless you are a confident and "healed" BPD. Does that ever really happen? lolz. NOT in my book yet.
cheers. :/
Me and my friend have been friends for 7 years nearly and I don't think I can really ever cut her out my life completely, however me and here didnt have any contact for a year to a year and a half and it was alot less stressful and it was nice to not have her hurting me all the time and I know she can be a trigger for me too.
I am fully aware she has some sort of mental illness but she is yet to be diagnosed, I have helped her through alot in the time we've known each other and not so long ago I was there to support her as she sort help from her doctor (for the second time). However I feel and I'm aware she is practically never there for me when I need her. I wouldn't go as far as saying she's never been there for me as that would be a lie but I feel back then she was being made to be there for me by my mum and her aunty (which upsets me), I'd like to think its because she cared but i'm not so sure because if she cared how can she just pic me up and drop me so easily :S :S and why is she never there for me now?!
Thank you both for your help and I hope you are both doing well .
