Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.

Hi, I'm new here. I was just diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder. I don't know what to think or what the outlook for me is, but I am terrified....
I'm 20 years old and have a 17 month old son and a husband. I'm hoping to find someone who can talk to me and help me through this. My mother doesn't believe me and my husband is just as scared as me.
Is there anyone who can explain what the prognosis is and how their family reacted..? I don't know what I'm looking for really, just support...
What were the beginning signs for you? I hear voices, usually just every now and then, but I've been hearing them for the past 3 weeks continuously. There are a couple that are very prominent and I can barely function. I'm afraid of vents and holes in the shower drain because I'm scared that something is going to come out and kill me...
I work in a pharmacy (not a good atmosphere) and yesterday I was holding a pill bottle. When I looked down at my hand, it was covered in blood, but when I looked again, it was gone.
I feel like I'm losing myself and I don't know what to do.... I go to a psychologist weekly and I'm getting in to see a psychiatrist within a few weeks. I'm on Abilify, Prozac, Neurontin, and Ativan to help control my symptoms. I've been on the last three for several months and I just switched from Zyprexa to Abilify a couple days ago because the Zyprexa was no longer helping.
I see a hospital visit in my near future if things don't start getting better... I can't think straight, I feel like my brain is just a confused and muddled mess. I just don't know what to think....

Hi, Im very sorry to hear that you are going through all this. Im not personally a member of this group although I had a pretty severe 'episode' last year due to a chemical imbalance- I also heard things and seen things, during those moments those moments the very best thing to do is stop and take deep breaths, you need to slow your brain down or it will go in a tailspin and just exasperate the situation. Remind yourself this is just one moment, and this moment will pass. You are on several medications and sometimes medicine affects one person differently than another- as Im sure you know working in a pharmacy. Don't waste your energy explaining yourself to ppl that are not on your side, or don't understand. Simplify things and just say that you don't feel well- don't explain, this is relatively new diagnosis for you and you need to digest it process it and accept it. And pray, Im not a religious person that pushes my beliefs on others, but in the midst of a near death experience I prayed like my life depended on it- because it did- and it truly helped. I wish you the best of luck on the journey ahead, keep in mind the 'not knowing' is the worst of it, and now you know, so you can do something about it and improve your life.

hi, if you are schizoaffective rather than schizoid personality type then that isn't a personality disorder ...you would be better posting on either the bipolar board which has a number of schozoafective members and/ or the schizophrenia board.

I live with schizoaffective and borderline personality disorder. They feed off eachother. Voices, paranoia, up and down moods. Feel free to private message me for support. Hope you are doing ok...

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!
