Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
An outpatient program may mean a few different things - one is just regular therapy sessions but called "outpatient psychiatric program", another is a "day program" (when the person needs a lot of support) and they go all day, usually 5 days a week and have different activities, group therapy, one-to-one, etc.
I suggest you try what the psychiatrist is recommending and then decide, since it is not even clear what this "program" means.
Going to an Out-patient Program would probably, actually, be very helpful for you!!! They can pin point some of your symptoms and offer you some useful tools to help you deal with them instead of you just hiding behind the mask of numbing your feelings.
Hoping JUST to be put on meds is the worst idea ever!!! Sorry to say...but it raises red flags in my mind about the kind of people who are looking for the "instant gratification" result.
