Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. She was also sharing way too much with me about her past relationship with my father and her new "friend". I wanted to vomit. I finally told her best of luck but I couldn't handle the details. I think I even tried throwing out details of my marriage, but she just enjoyed it. That didn't work.
I think the best you can do is let her be happy. Yes, people are often attracted to the same type of wrong men, but this guy might be different. I would just watch carefully for any of the early signs of abuse or trying to control her and talk with her about it if you see it. It is sad to say, but we as children have to realize that our parents are going to make mistakes and not date the guys we want them to. I had a nice guy picked out for her. He would have been great. He was a retired postman, very sweet, but of a differnt race. She said she just couldn't do it. The crazy thing is all of her children married white people and her grandfather that raised her was white. As I said, sometimes they just aren't attracted to who we would want them to be. After a while their romance started to slow down. I had to finally realize I couldn't control who she dated, but I could stop her from telling me too much and I could jump in and interfer if the relationship turned sour.
Let her have fun!! and hope the rain clouds never come in.
Good Luck,
Tamara
