Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
I know for a fact that you have read up on this stuff and you know quite well that you have the characteristics and thus the diagnosis. All one needs is to have 5 out of the 9 and you have it. Personally I think that 4 sessions the psych is still getting to know you and thus doesnt want to come straight out and say it. I think it will only be a matter of time before he makes it official.
Contrary to what you think just because you may have a diagnosis does not immediately proclaim that youre going to spend more time as an inpatient in hospital.
I think you have taken some huge steps in simply telling the psych about your life. It was only a little while ago that you beleived that what you went through as child wasnt child abuse and that your parents behviour was typical of all parents and when you get a dickhead of a husband telling you that he was entitled to do what he did and no judge would argue with what he thought juat continued to keep you on the zone of denial.
Your a brilliant person contrary to what you think. I think all the people I have met with BPD are incredible people but due to many *&^%$#$ in their lives have reverted to surviving/living in a particular way.
GETTING A DIAGNOSIS DOES NOT SUDDENLY MAKE YOU A DIFFERENT PERSON

Def find out, as if you have it you can get treated quicker. I found out i had BPD via a letter from a psych i'd only seen once!!!Which is bad, he could have told me to my face and explained what BPD was as id never heard of it!
I told my usual therapist(i was already in therapy for OCD), but she wouldnt explain BPD to me as she thought it was best to concentrate on OCD.
A few years went by, me wondering what BPD was and not being treated for it-i got worse! eventually i had a new therapist and told her i WANTED to find out for sure whether i had BPD.
She got me a assessment and yes i had it. Even now im angry they didnt support me sooner! It delayed treatment(DBT) which was fantastic.
So go for it, get the assessment!good luck
