and sometimes I also throw in an "if this happens I will NOT do that" (but that doesn't usually work, and sometimes hurts more itself, and oh bother... my strategy doesn't work when I do that at all, so skip that completly)
ANYWAY... time delay, sometimes you actually change your thinking.
One other strategy is something called "grounding"... but I've never been able to do that... there should be info on it on the web though

Last night I stopped holding myself, and today I feel rotten because of it, today the only thing that's helping me hold back "major" impulses is the fact that I'm at work (not that it always stops me)... Now I'm replacing them with "goofing" off and being on this sight instead (occupied/busy mind so they don't get to prevelant in this sick ol mind o mine)
