Hi,

Is there anyone on here in the UK who has or is receiving either CBT or DBT to help them with their BPD (I know all initials!!).

Reason I'm asking is after some advice on how you managed to get it? My wife has BPD and we keep getting fobbed off by our Mental Health Team. This time they want her to try Counselling. Thing is neither of the groups we've approached the one that is run from the mental health unit and the one run by MIND is hopeful, neither of them feel counselling will help.

Thing is she has talked it through so many times with CPN's etc etc, but nothing has helped. She needs to be taught strategies to deal with it, not just talk about it.

Any tips on how to get her CBT or DBT would be appreciated.

I could send you some articles that my DBT therapist sent me that explained why DBT was better than counseling...would you like those?

I got onto it because they started it up as a new thing where I live.

I abhorred it. It seemed so primitive and basic, the emotion based stuff. I had little in common with the others there, and quite frankly, those doing the one to one therapy had a bad tendency to treat us like kids being given homework.

Have you tried the Sun Project? They run in most areas and its a daily group run by people with BPD if you get back to me via my email I have a few suggestions.

hi there iv been waiting for cbt there is a 9 months waiting list on nhs and the doc told me theres not much help with bpd and iv been ill for years you will have to go privet and pay sorry i cant help more hope you find help hug to you and your wife

Hi i have just started DBT yesterday in fact. I am on it as my CPN wanted me to start the group, i know that this is the first time that they are trying it out, where i live.
Sorry i cant give you anymore advice about it. Hope you get it soon though.
