Peptic Ulcers Support Group
A peptic ulcer is an ulcer of one of those areas of the gastrointestinal tract that are usually acidic. Most ulcers are now known to be associated with Helicobacter pylori, a spiral-shaped bacterium that lives in the acidic environment of the stomach. About 4 % of gastric ulcers are caused by a malignant tumor, which is one reason to be vigilant in their detection.
Do not feel alone! I have been in the same boat as you recently. At least you have a positive diagnosis at this time. Hopefully they will get you on the right medications. If your ulcer is caused by bacteria, a course of antibiotics, and a stomach med. should take care of this problem. Then in return, will probably calm the gastritis. Above all, try and stay calm, stress just makes everything worse. Do some breathing exercises. You may also have to start watching what you eat. Many spicey foods can set off the pain. I do hope and pray you find your answers and some comfort along the way.......tc
I was diagnosed in feb after severe bleeding from 2 ulcers. Was in so much pain it was unbelievable! I had HP and took a course of antibiotics and am much better now and pain free. The main thing I have done is to completely change my diet...no junk food (Coke, candy, chips, burgers etc) and have also cut out Gluten and grain based alcohol. I also take probiotics to increase the healthy bacteria in my gut and Manuka honey to help heal the ulcers. ikeogh is right to say that stress and spicy food can cause pain. For me a healthy diet and meditation really works......good luck, K
