Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
Sometimes I get more out of the questions than I do out of the answers. Here I've thought all this time that my menopause has lasted over a decade when, in truth, my heavy sweating has been yet another symptom of this crummy little disease. What next? I, too, would like to know if anybody has any clue as to what to do about this. Or would be interested in buying a pile of winter clothes and coats that I don't need anymore even though the temperature gets below zero in the winter here.
Your friend in PD !

I was having episodes of drenching sweats in the middle of the night, which is the time when I had no meds in my system. My primary originally thought peri-menopause. I researched a bit, and I read that this type of sweating can occur during low dopamine states. My neuro also had heard of this and we added Sinemet CR to cover me during the night, and I no longer have this issue.
Take care.
That doctor is absolutely correct, excessive sweating is a symptom of PD. Unfortunately it is also common w/menopause and hypo-thyroidism and I've got all three!! Take your pick!! Anyway, there's not much you can do except for the personal fan and maybe baby powder. It does help absorb some of the moisture. I can tell you though once I got diagnosed w/PD and then started reading up on it I read about that sympton. It was a relief because I had really noticed the excessive sweating the summer before I was diagnosed. Now I always bring a change of shirt & bra when I play golf because I will soak right through them. I always remind myself things could be worse, at least I am still able to play golf and play pretty well, to.
Good luck
PD has made my facial skin and scalp very oily. It's hard to stay dry.

Thanks an3
I wondered if maybe it was b/c I'd gained some weight, but then I realized that I'm smaller than I was last summer....so weight can't be the issue! I've just had an ultrasound study on my Thyroid...not sure about it yet...although blood tests came back ok. PD??? Hmmm??? Making me wonder more & more!
You see, I haven't "officially" been diagnosed with anything yet, except for Fibromyalgia! MS & PD are suspected. Thanks again for this post! ;)
