Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. Well that was fun. NOT! I ended up in hospital, seems like I had taken to much, by my stupidity. I am supposed to take sinamet 1 and 1/2 tablets every 4 hours, but that doesnt work any more, so I had been taking it every 3 or 3/12 hours, and when that was not working either, i would have another tablet, just trying to make something stop these stupid tremors. Bad Bad me, when my partner had added up what I had taken, seems like I doubled the dose. Im not a stupid person, althougth that was stupid. I have to see the neruo on 7th Jan, as they are on holidays, seems like sinamet has decided to stop working , well not as effective, Now what? They better find something that works. God I felt sick yesterday, better today

Thanks so much for sharing about your od on sinemet. I take 1-1/2 dose every 5 hours or 3 times a day and then one tab at night around 9 or 10 pm. I havent taken too much but some days I feel really sick (you know our bad days we have) and I think maybe I should try more. So now I know not to. I think if the dr. wants us to take more we have to be weaned to more instead of an accidental od dose of a large amount all at once.
I think I read somewhere where the recommended normal dose is 8 25/100 sinemets a day. Or maybe it was that insurance companies only pay for a prescription of up to 8 tabs a day. Does anyone know about this? Would be interested in knowing as I am now up to 5-1/2 a day. Thanks.
Feel better Peachy!!!
Hang in there sweetie and know that you are loved and supported by all of us!
My aunt takes 12 25/100 a day with insurance covering that.
This went on for 10 years and I noticed he was getting sleepy and sleeping a lot about an hour after taking them. I had to plan things around that time, but if he didn't take them I noticed he was more awake.
I told the neurologist and he suggested cutting them back to 4 per day. and shouldn't affect him mobility.
He took 4 for about a year but I think he gradually lost some of his mobility, but it's hard to tell. It could be just the decline of the disease.
He has had PD for 11 years and dementia for 3 years and now in Long Term.
He was still sleepy and I guess looking back it has affected his mobility a little. He was walking ok up until 7 months ago and he started to loose balance. It could be just the progress though. He is 70 years old now and as I said he's had it over 11 years.
He was put in a wheelchair about 7 months ago because we were afraid of him loosing balance and he did fall a few times. The worse thing that I was afraid of breaking a hip.
They aren't walking him now as he is resists.. He also has dementia which started 3 years ago.
I talked to his now doctor at the nursing home about the pills and said they make him sleep. He was surprised and asked about his mental state. I said he is foggy a lot of the time and sleeps a lot. He said they could take him off the Senimet completely. He's done it with other patients and my friend's husband was take off and he was so much better.
Since he isn't walking anyway and they are feeding him, we are going to take him off and see how he is. I'd rather see him have more quality of life because right now he's in that wheelchair and sleeping and not doing much.
Our family goes to visit and he's barely awake. I visit 2 or 3 times a week and a lot of the time he is sleeping also. I wheel him around to listen to the musical entertainment that the home has weekly and he has a TV in his room. His head is in a down position all of the time too.
He is too young to be in a home, but I was getting too stressed at home, even with help daily. I am better off visiting him and knowing that he's cared for in the nursing home. I just want him to enjoy life as much as he can, so we'll see how it goes.
