Hi all. I posted a discussion on another one of my support groups several months ago. I met the most wonderful man. We like the same things and we get alone like a dream. I learned that he was diagnosed with early Parkinson's Disease two years prior to us meeting. His symptoms were slight; however, they progressed significantly during the first four months that we were dating. I had him go back to his neurologist and he was started on a different medication, which seems to be helping him. The problem is that his collective symptoms.. Increased salivation, cold lips, gooey wet kisses, frequent burping, gurgling stomach, slow stiff movement are barriers and deter me from wanting to be physically intimate with him. I love him dearly and we have been engaged since April, but I am afraid of our future and afraid that I have periods of resentment because I know that sexual intimacy with him is unsatisfying. Maybe I'm an idiot, but I didn't know that it was possible to love a man so much & be grossed out by the symptoms of his disease. We are very close and are able to discuss our feelings about all of this. I know that he loves me dearly, but he says that he does not want to ruin my chances of having a completely fulfilling life. I do not want to lose him, but I also do not know the answer to what to do next. Any thoughts?
It's my impression that you've already made your choice, you just haven't accepted your decision yet. You've had a rough life, are in healing mode yourself, and are apprehensive about a marriage that will certainly put enormous demands upon you. You write, "I want to make a decision that is right for me." Another question you might ask is, Are you at a point in you're life where you're right for HIM?
