Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
Welcome to the group and I'm sorry you have to be here. I was just diagnosed in January, so am new to the group as well. But they are all very supportive and all have different knowledge and perspective. I take one med once a day at bedtime, and am coming off multiple other drugs for other chronic conditions, and actually feeling pretty well. I do recommend a book Johns Hopkins publishes, titled "Parkinson's Disease (2nd Edition) A Complete Guide for Patients and Families."
It's not scary, nor overwhelming and written in a way to help you get an overall picture of what is PD and what is not. It also has a great index for referring to something a second (third, fourth, fifth...) time. Keep posting and keep reading. It's a blessing.

I am 49 years old and have had PD since my early thirties. I am stable right now and have recently returned to work after 4 months off. My medications have been stablized and I feel well.
You may feel that your symptoms happened rapidly, but often there were minute changes that you don't really realize. Every one is different so it's hard to say how fast or slow it progresses.
Keep an open mind, get plenty of rest, have a positive attitude and get moving and exercise. Having someone to talk to and to share your feeling can also be a big help.
We will be here to help you along on your journey, you are never alone. Welcome!!!

Glad you found us. I expect you will find connections and information you glean here to be helpful. We are an odd lot of PD-afflicted. You will find people here to be like people facing such challenges anywhere: sad, elated, blue, content, determined, grumpy, tired, sore, and glad to be alive. The common thread running through the group is we care.
If you have not found out already, our common infirmity is not the Parkinson's of our grandparents' era. Hang around here and you will certainly read how diagnostics, meds, therapies, treatment strategies, and self-help programs have changed enormously.
Welcome!

I was diagnosed at age 67, which was 3 1/2 years ago. My worst symptom so far has been the fear of the disease, causing sadness and anxiety. So far, have had no progression. Daily Strength has been a great help. Really does help with the loneliness. Have met a lot of wonderful people who are very willing to help. You have discovered a good support group.
Like I said, you're in the right place my new friend!
