What is the benefit./ My husband just takes cardvedopa/levodopa 2x4 per day.
He doesn't experience the 'kick in' sensation that I've heard about.
His progression is the slow kind, tremor related, but I don't know what the other kind is.
Anyway, he's been asked if he feels differently after taking the meds, but he doesn't feel any different. I guess that is why he tends to forget to take them at the proper time sometimes......mostly in the evening.
Also someone on this site told me that you can only take it for about a year. Sorry this is not more helpful - I think you need to try what your Doc says see if it works for you
Although my Neurologist wanted me to take Amantadine Twice per day, I;m only taking one and one Azilect per day for now until i can tolerate it. Thanks Guys for your advise and relating personal experience with Amantadine!....................:-)
My experience has been good on amantadine, I have not had any nightmares, visual problems or anything. I tried to stop it once and my symptoms got worse.
I've been on Azilect for a couple of years, 1mg/day. No side effects and it definitely helps. It was the first thing they put me on and I noticed some symptom improvement. I started Amantadine 10mg/ml per day and was advised to take in the AM. No problems or side effects (tastes horrible though). They gave it to me to help with dyskinesia from levo/carb, but I don't think it's done much.
Schells, why can you only take Amantadine for a year?
