I just found out that my 12 yr. old step son has been molesting my 5 yr. old daughter. He comes to our house every other weekend but not anymore. My brother in law actually walked in and caught him with my daughter in the corner. I asked her what was going on and she started crying immediately and said that she couldn't tell because he told her not to, he wouldn't play with her anymore, he would get in trouble, etc. After reassuring her that she wasn't in trouble, but that I needed to know what happened, she told me what was happening. I have no idea how long this has been going on because she has no real idea of time. He said a couple of times, then 7, but I'm sure he's not telling the truth. I call DCS to report but here it is 5 days later and nothing has happened. They are supposed to schedule a forensic interview but after that, she said we would basically be done with involvement in the case. I'm wondering where is the support that should go along with this? Where do I turn? When? How do I know how far to go with getting my daughter treatment? She's acting normal for the most part, other than she has said that she is thinking about it. She is a sensitive child, always eager to please and very easy to feel guilt. I am very concerned for the emotional and psychological impact this could have. Not to mention that my husband's family is rallying behind my stepson. Now, I feel like I can't trust them at all and I feel like she will lose loved because of this. As of now, I can see no way out of this. I don't want my stepson around ever again, but I know my husband still wants to be in his life. How can we make that work? My children will be so hurt when they find out they cannot see their step brother anymore, but I know that cannot happen. The DCS worker also said that there won't be legal involvement for my step son, that they focus on treating him. While I understand that he's sick and needs help, I also feel like that means my child will never really have justice of any type.
