Wow 300 miles away. Thats tough. My son is 200 miles away but I am so angry with him that I don't want to visit him. He would have never been in jail had he listened to me. Now his kids don't have him around. They don't have a father to help raise them. I wish you the best in getting your son moved closer.

I think we all go through an anger stage. I sure did and still.have them from time to time. I know this is cliche but things do get better with time.

The first 5 years of my sons incarceration he was in AZ and I was in MN. Talk about a hopeless feeling..... .I waited until all my kids became adults and moved to AZ this past Feb. I'm in no way a fan of the state, don't care for living here. But it's where he's at and he's the only one who can't relocate so I went woth the best option I could. We both feel a lot better that we're closer to each other.
I still go through hours of anger, because I warned him and told him he was taking the wrong road. He didn't think I knew what I was talking about.....6 months later, after he was already locked up he told me I had been right.....kbew that already though. Lol. Kids don't realize their decisions effect the whole family. I try to focus on the positives, he's alive, one day he'll get out. But some days it's very hard to not be angry. So I pray and keep praying.

Kat...I understand everything you feel! Is your son in a state or federal facility? I was living in California prior to my son's incarceration caring for another son who has a brain tumor. In June. I moved us both back to NC to be closer to the prison but shortly before we got back here they transferred my other son to a different facility much further away.

He's in a state facility. I had tried turning to his dad for help and had sent him to AZ so his dad could possibly help and have a positive influence on him.....that obviously completely blew up in my face. I never had any intention nor desire to live here before all this. But we do what we feel is necessary for our kids. Right now he's back in county because they found some more stuff to charge him with and the statute of limitations was almost up. So I keep hoping they don't add more time and just run everything concurrent. I'm think I'm more worried about him being institutionalized than anything at the moment since all his formidable years are spent in there. I'll be almost 60 when he is releases and would hate to die with him in prison.......its unfair the things we have to consider because of their decisions.

that is my fear to also I am raising his son who is only 8 years old my son has been in and out of prison since he was 15 now he may be facing a lot of time the waiting is the hard part but I also taught my kids right from wrong but for some reason he always chose to go the wrong way I use to blame myself thinking maybe I wasn't a good mother but I realized that as they get older they have to make there own decisions and I was a great mom so I try to encourage myself daily I will be praying for you and God does not give us a spirit of fear but love and a sound mind
