My son has been on Vyvanse for alittle over a month now, and has been doing pretty good. He doesn't have any tics or rage, but never has, he is 6yrs old. I am not sure if that make a difference. He has was on Foclin and it work for awhile then he started becoming more impulsive and inattentive, and losing ALOT of weight. I have not seem any problems with rage or anger with Vyvanse so far. We did have to increase dosage recently. I hope this helps.

My 6 year old daughter used Vyvanse for about 2 months before we had to take her off of it. It made her anger and aggression worse and she was not quite as in control of her impulses as she was on other medications. We also had problems with the effects lasting all day for her. It would wear off about 2pm even on a higher dosage. I have also heard very good things about Vyvanse, so don't be discouraged. It may work well for your child. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. Day one today, he's on half a dosage (three days of this until we start the full dosage -- equivalent of what he's been on in the past). His ADHD symptoms are there but no rage in the afternoon. Will have to see what happens at full dose, but hopeful for now.

My son 9 has been on Vyvanse since August of last year and it has been more successful than we could have ever imagined. He lost about 20 pounds over 2 months time but leveled off after that. He still does not always eat lunch but we have supplemented that with after dinner protein snacks. I hope you have as much success with it as we did.

Day one on full dosage was good. No anger/defiance in the afternoon, although he seemed pretty hyper and unfocused, so I think this may wear off early in the afternoon. Will have to see how it goes. I'll take the ADHD symptoms over the rages.

My daughter has been on Vyvanse for almost a year now. She started on Intunive and Vyvanse together, but when we moved and had to switch peds..he took her off the Intunive. She doesn't have rage problems, but she does get emotional and she's lost so much weight. She's 6 and currently falls in between the 5th and 10th percentile on the BMI index. The meds wear off before she gets home from school making homework almost impossible and she has night terrors almost nightly. The doctor wants to raise her dosage at almost every visit (monthly) and she is current;y up to 60 mg/day. I'm trying to change doctors yet again, as this one has no interaction with her at appointments and very little with me except for telling me we needs to increase her dosage. As for your question...for my little one...Vyvanse hasn't given her problems with rage..but it has in other areas.

My son is almost 7. We tried Metadate, concerta, and adderrall before we started Vyvanse last year. He was on 20mg all summer and it was wearing off quickly but with no rage. He didnt have much weight loss with this but has had a horrible time sleeping. About a month ago we increased to 30mg and added a Clonidine for sleep and since then we have started having problems with lying, doing things he knows he shouldnt and also tried hurting our dog. Andd all of these behaviors only happened in the afernoon when the meds were wearing off. We are fixing to see a psychiatrist and I am stopping all medication and starting over. I want to have some more testing done without medication in his system. I would much rather have the ADHD instead of rage. He has always been a sweet and loving child so I know something is wrong. We ended up taking our son off of Vyvanse this summer after he went into a HUGE rage. He punched holes in his wall and threatened to jump out the window and kill himself at only eight years old. I ended up calling 911 and the police had to calm him down. Then, ended up taking him to the ER. We pulled him off of ADHD meds for a couple days and then put him back on Concerta. We figured we'd rather deal with increased tics than him losing his mind completely. Vyvanse was a total disaster for him.

Vyvanse was awful for my daughter. She was on 20 mg at 6 years old. No rage, but she never had issues with that, only inattention. When she went on Vyvanse she became an emotional wreck, crying at the drop of a hat. She also got headaches so bad I almost took her to the ER. The first night on it she did not sleep until 4am! Hopefully you do find some success with it as I have heard that every child reacts differently.

My son just started Vyvanse a week ago (he is 6) and it has been awesome! No rage incidents, positive behavior, he even LOOKS happier on the outside. Its like I have my little boy back from before we started medicine, he just has a little more self control during the day. The only thing I have noticed (which not sure if eventually this will subside) is in the morning and at night he seems all over the place. I need to find something to calm him at night to help him sleep, but other than this there has been no bad incidents with him on Vyvanse. He even had a whole week at school with no office referrals! Hopefully this helps.

Hi there. Drfinitely every child reacts differently, but I now am noticing by day 3 we can tell when a medication is not working. We started my daughter(now 7) on Aderall this past June and had to take her off of it after about a month. Her ped put her on Vyvanse, but by the 3rd day she was crying uncontrollably, especially in the evening time. She started to become more aggressive. by about the 2nd week I called her Dr because she just stopped eating. She lost 2 pounds in that week and a half and went into depression and cried and moped all the time. The Dr told us to take her off right away and then tried concerta, but never was able to swallow. She is now on Methylphenidate(spelling might be off), but it is liquid form once in the morning and once after school, as well as clonodine at night that she has been taking for more than a year now to help her sleep. SHe is eating well now and has few to almost none crying episodes and has been so much more able to focus. Again, hopefully your child responds well to it and it takes time for them to adjust, but usually we as moms get a gut feeling when a med is not right for our kids. It is nice to have support here and knowing we are not alone. Really hope this works for you and your son.

My son wa on Vyvanse 20 mg for a while then it wore off and he had to be upped to the 30mg. But he was doing great with it. He did have times of not wanting to eat but he wasnt loseing alot of weight so the doctor said that it was ok. But everyone is different with meds bc i had a friend whos little girl was on the same thing and she got worse. Just have open communication with the doctor and you and the doctor will find what is right for the child. We also have our son run around in circles in the yards at times when he was really hyper and needed to burn off some energy. he was on it for almost a year before we moved and he can not get his meds right now till we get him to a doctor but he is doing ok without just have to have him out and run for a while and play outside and all everyday.
