Parents of Children with ADHD Support Group
This community is designed as an open forum where the parents and guardians of children with ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) can give and receive support, as well as discuss ideas, techniques, concerns, surprises, and challenges they may face with their children.

To hopefully help you feel a little better there are many others out there just like you. And boys seem to be diagnosed more with ADHD as well as they can also take it to the extreme with the things that they do. I have three sons and three step children and my middle son is ADHD. It was apparent from birth. The biggest advice I can give you because there is not a lot of understanding about ADHD is to have patience. Understand that he has ADHD and this is what happens when someone cannot control there impulses and focus. Once you have accepted it this may take some of the stress off of you and you may be more patient with him. Have you considered medication for him? The only reason I say this is because I decided to not give my son medication and I just dealt with the behaviors (the schools will not deal with it though) and as he entered middle school and high school the social anxiety began and the depression which intensifies the situation even more. I have dealt with my son having depression and suicidal ideation every since. Where medication may have helped these symptoms. He is 21 years old know and out of all of my children I have to watch over him the most because at any minute the depression and suicidal thoughts may come back. He is on medication but I cannot help but to wonder if all of this could have been avoided a long time ago by getting him help as a child.
I hope any of this helps,
Tietjen
Thanks for the kind words about my son. It is a constant battle. I hope things work out for you and your son as well. If you need people to talk to you know where to go we have all been there. Hang in there.
