My second son was told that he has ADHD too. He is not even 4 years old yet (turns 4 on the 19th of this month). He is on meds and they are starting to help him out some. My 9 year old son has ADHD too and was told he had it a month before his 6th birthday. It also runs in my family and my boys are the 4th generation with ADHD in some form. I talked to the doctor that my boys see about if the baby I was pregnant with would have ADHD. She said that there is at 75% that my baby girl will have ADHD too when she gets older. So now I am trying to get a handle on having two kids with ADHD, a newborn baby girl, I have depression and anxiety and I home school my oldest son. Its not going to be easy and I am going to try my best to do what I have to do with everyone and everything.

I would suggest sending your children to school. First of all - the socialization is great for children that have ADHD. And, if I were you I'd be pulling my hair out right now. Kuddos to you for being able to do the home school thing! Like I said, I have found that school is a good part of my son's life. He is starting to work on controlling his out bursts - figuring out right from wrong. But, I have to admit - He has an AWESOME teacher.

My oldest son will be going in to public school next year to get him ready for middle school and high school. My other son may be going into preschool in the fall too. He will be 4 yr old he 19th so we are going to start looking into getting him ready for preschool.

I hope you are taking care of yourself! Your children will pick up on your anxiety and sadness and it may have an effect on their behavior. My son was always a reflexion of my own feelings. I try to be careful when I am with him not to add my issues to his. It is not easy, but these kids are so wonderful and please try to enjoy them for who they are. I wish I had done that more when my son was younger. He just turned 15 and has really improved over the last couple of years. All the best to you.

Another thing I found that really helped my son was playing a sport. My son started tennis when he was in 2nd or 3rd grade and the discipline and concentration he has to have on the court has really helped him in other areas. Now, I'm a very stern mother and told him if he ever threw his racket, it would be the last time he played. And he knew I meant business because I've yanked him off in the middle of a matches when I didn't think he was behaving properly. My point being, he had to learn to control himself and training and doing something physical and repetitive is very good for him. As he's gotten older, he sees that it helps a lot. My son also loves the socialization at school and wants to be around other kids and adults. (again, stern mother...he'd rather stick hot pokers in his eyes then have me teach him! LOL)
