I would love to keep this site alive,,,, I'm on another site,, but it deals with same adicition, but more about "spouses",,,, which has been a blessing, and met such great people,,,, this site is for us parents,,,, others can 'divorce" or walk away,,, but when it's your child,,,, the answer is so much more difficult,,, because at the end of the day,,, our addicit is still our child,, no matter what age....... I'm sure if your reading this,, you all have the same feeling I do... unless any of us, had or has a child,,, going through this,,,, no one knows what it's like looking at our kids,,, and remembering that when they where first born,,, we never would of imagine them going through this,,, let alone us as their parents experiencing this heart ache,

2nd Spending your last $5000 for a lawyer for your son.
ARE YOU NUTS.
It's too bad our addicts do this to themselves and us.

Karen ~ What a blessing! I hope that your son will indeed be able to help others... knowing that he has walked this road and conquered can be a great inspiration to someone who is still struggling.

David Sheff pointed out in Beautiful Boy how being a parent instantly qualifies us as codependents. Think of how we rush to clean up their skinned knee, or bring a tissue for them to blow in , or yell hard for them in sporting events, or otherwise support them so freely when they are young. But when that same parenting behavior occurs when the child is older, and an addict/alc, then those acts can be done for the same reason we always did it, because we are the parent and we care. But now it gets closer to codependency and enabling. I am talking about acts short of providing them with money and cars. Just daily acts, where our lives used to be intertwined in a family way, now the closeness can be from our wanting to know, our need for our kid to be 'good' for one night, or many other decisions that are made around their drug use. It subtly changes because substances have entered the picture. Doing what used to work doesn't cut it for anyone involved any more, and we need to cut the apron strings as much as the kid needs us to cut them. Codependency has many shades.

cardinal39....I just found this sight tonight and I was thinking the same thing.....NO ONE knows the pain unless you are going through the same thing with your child....I just found this site tonight and it fits! Thank you....

please think twice about the lawyer. You could end up owing $10,000 or much more.
