al anon

my son is a drug addict but is in rehab program and will be gone for a year if all goes well. i am thinking maybe i should go to al anon to a few meetings as i seem to be addicted to him and his recovery. it seems to be all i think about to the exclusion of my husband and other three children. there are no nar- anon meetings in the area so will they accept me at al anon?

You can fudge a little and say your 'qualifier' is an addict/alcoholic. Which he likely is anyway; the two go hand in hand in most cases. At any rate, most meetings won't kick you out for saying your son is an addict, esp since there are no NarAnon meetings. Also, a lot of people have other family members who are or have been alcoholics; parents, friends, anyone you care about who is an alcoholic will also qualify you. Most of us, once we go to meetings a while, come to realize the amount of loved ones we have around us who are alcoholic/addicts.....

The last Al Anon meeting I went to had more family members of drug addicts as opposed to alcoholics anyway. Here in Alabama at least, it definitley doesn't matter.

First of all - good for you for getting help.

All the meetings I've been to - about half of the family members had kids or spouses were addicts. The meetings are for you and your recovery anyway so it really doesn't matter what our loved ones are hooked on. BTW - alcohol is a drug too - a mind altering substance - so it doesn't matter......

Note: Give Al Anon a good chance. It is a process - so be patient. There are other meetings too that might "fit" you better. Best of luck......

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
