I'd say it probably has alot to do with the arguing.
I've been threw this with My daughter.
Good luck I'm still working threw it myself.
Her grades took a nose dive.
She was a A B honor roll student and got her first F last yr at 11.
But I've found if I stay calm she does much better.
She is back to A's and B's

My son struggles in school as well. I was able to communicate with his school and they found a tutoring service to help him. He's needed extra help since he was in grade two. Now he's in grade seven and has started with a tutor again.

I'm not sure where you are located, but where I am they put children with special learning needs in special programs where their goals are individual. My son has been on this program for many years.

You mention he's ADHD. My son was just diagnosed as well. We plan to try medication. I've talked to several people who take meds for ADHD and they say it's easy to come off the meds and that they only need them for school. I think we will try it to see if it helps.

Good luck. I know it's hard to meet the needs of a child who doesn't fit in easily. What he needs most is an advocate and it appears he's very lucky to have one in you.

my son struggled for years and I remember a time at the kitchen table while he was doing homework where i was trying to help - him crying and me frustrated. then I finally got fed up and went to his school. Turned out his reading was below level, which affected all aspects of his acedemics. My advice is to talk to the counselor because it may be something emotional from home (if parents are fighting) - which my school district actually had groups for or the couselor provided individual sessions for. This way he can get help identifying with his feelings and have a healthy outlet for them which may resolve some issues that prevents him from focusing on school work. Talk to his teachers and find out why he is failing and ask for their advice - this is what they are trained for. It shows your son that you are aware there is a problem and that you are there to support him and help him. If your husband can attend and play a part too so that your son see's you both care - all the better. You are not alone and you don't have to solve this by yourself. Good luck!

Its has to do with the arguing between your husband and yourself. He can't do his school work because he is worrying about if you and your husband is going to get along.

I would say put him in an environment where he can succeed. That simply means someplace that is quiet. Whether it's a library or his bedroom, it doesn't make a difference. Is he getting Fs because he skips or misses assignments? then get on his case about that. You have to find out WHY he is failing. Then put him in a position to succeed.
