My dd does the same thing but she picks the food up and puts it on her spoon and then puts the spoon in her mouth. Have you tried a fork to see if she would show interest in stabbing at it?

My child is silverware challenged..she's 17months and tries but ends up using her hands..I like the fork better but she still plays with it and often uses it to push food off her tray:)
