LOL We went to a similar site and found a lot of level 3 offenders in our neighborhood. We also live in a very small town and the paper comes out once a week. We have a "Journal of Record" each week and it tells you who was arrested for what reason, what happended in court and also lists the sex offenders that are new to the area with a description of their crimes, address, etc.....

Mason County seems to have a high concentration of meth houses and unregistered sex offenders.....a camp (literally) of them were found by some DOT workers when they were clearing an area of woods at a hwy junction

You'll love this one.... turns out that my junior prom date is registered! Thankfully he is still in our home state. Seems his taste in what age girls he liked never changed. Honestly, looking back, I could see it. He was kind of pushy at prom wanting to go much farther than I did..

I don't know if I have it much better. My junior prom date ended up committing suicide in 2002. Turns out he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and kept going off of his medication.

a good friend of mine from high school who still lives in our home state came across it and sent it to me. I'm just glad my taste in men has infinitely improved since then. ;-)

Most of those 'sex offenders' never touched a child. My son is gong to be on the sex offender page when he's released from prison because he accidentally downloaded child porn that he never looked at. The laws are so strict and the sentencing is so overblown that he had to plead out so as not to take a chance on going to trial. You can see the response here, he would have been guilty before he even defended himself.
Others include young adults who had consenual sex with their girl/boyfriend and it went bad. If you are under 18 and have sex you can be convicted of having sex with someone underage and be put on the registry..sometimes for the rest of your life.
There are others who didn't do anything, yet after nasty breakups or divorce their 'other' pressed charges. There is a very small percent that is actually interested in children. Yet you would never know it because everyone is listed the same, on the same registry and their 'crimes' aren't described , but are generic. This could happend to your sons, daughters, grandchildren, friends.. You know people right now who are on the list, yet they won't tell you for if you found out you would automatically judge them without know what really happened.

I tried this and I don't think its very accurate. It tells me that there is not one sex offender living in my entire town. Granted, I live in a town of 4000 people, I know for sure of one sex offender in town because I worked with her at my old part time job, and she got out of prison about a year ago now for statuatory rape.

I also looked up a city about 30 minutes away that is much bigger than where I live and there were no registered sex offenders there either.

The government legally has to disclose a list of any and all registered sex offenders to anyone that asks. I would try going to the courthouse to get a list if you are concerned because this site wasn't at all as accurate as you may think.

These sites just make me feel worse. We already know sex offenders are all over the place. And these are just the registered people. Some of them never get reported because the victim is too afraid and embarrassed to say anything. But the thing that upsets me most about these sites is seeing how close some of them live to schools. I didn't think they were legally allowed to be near schools and parks, but I don't think anyone is enforcing that.


I also agree that some of these have nothing to do with children and that should be taken into consideration. Sometimes, when I read the profiles, I am way more concerned for my well being than my son's. It's just not a very safe world, is it?

In Canada there is no such site. Only police have access to the registry. To avoid vigilantes and spreading fear. It has its pros and cons. I am sort of glad as I would check it too often if we had one!!!!
