My daughter is a year and it seems like she pulls her own hair, ALOT.
She does it if she's mad, bored, tired, happy. All the time it seems. She will pull until her face screws up and she get's a fistful of hair. I've been putting as much of it as I can in a little ponytail atop her head and that seems to save that hair, but the hair in the back is just a little too short to do anything with.
By the end of meal times her hair is sticking out in all directions coated with food.
The only time I can get her to stop is if I keep her hands busy. And it's impossible to keep them busy all of the time.
Sometimes when I go get her from her nap or in the morning she will have her hands full of little wisps of her own hair.
She is prone to ear infections and I notice she starts to pull even worse during an infection. But she has only had 5, one lasted almost a month, in her year of life and all the doctors say she needs to have 6 before they can look into anything other then meds.
I'm really starting to worry....has anyone else had this happen?

she was doing it for attention because she'd do it I'd ask her to stop and she'd giggle. We have tried ponytails as well and it
didn't help I've just learned I have to distract her especially
in the car I end up throwing everything out of the diaper bag into her lap while driving

She doesn't have a favorite blanket. And her favorite toy is a Big Bird stuffy that's as large as she is! He sits in her crib and she talks to him before bed and in the morning before she is ready to get up.
I also have tossed everything imaginable at my daughter while in the car! I don't carry much of a diaper bag...just a few diapers, wipes, a snack and a drink in a hand knit shoulder bag. So instead it's bits of unimportant papers she can Hulk out on, or an empty CD case she can open and close. Everything only holds her interest for moments. We have a DVD player in our SUV and that doesn't do it anymore either.
Her hair pulling had stopped for a bit. But then it kicked up again a few weeks ago. It bothers me, and I'm worried it will escalate into something worse.
I do seem to see her doing it more when she is teething (She has been really slow at getting teeth, so this pretty much goes on most of the time).
I did order a loveybaby - a doll made with real hair thinking that maybe she would twirl it instead. I even cut my hair to have the doll made. She has not yet wanted to do much with it, so I am not sure what to suggest.
When I did bring it up at the ped, they just said, "it's cute". By the way, my DD also sucks her thumb and she pretty much twirls simultaneously. When the thumb goes in, the other hand goes in the hair.
I wish I had a suggestion for you and I haven't seen much online other than trying to substitute with something else. My DD is just so stubborn that she won't take anything else. Again, I don't have a suggestion, but I am here if you want to talk about it.
