I would suggest going back to diapers it sounds like she wasn't ready a lot of kids revert and that's ok 26 months is really early to be potty trained. My guess is pooping on the potty scared her
I'd take slow steps to getting back into it and do it on her terms
I run a private dayhome. So during the week there are other kids here. During the weekend it is just Marlow.
All week she has accidents...she refuses the potty. But during the weekend, she is great! She had no accidents at all(minus sleep time) and twice she tried to poop in the potty on her own...though both times she only made it to right in front of the potty lol
So I think that maybe she is doing it to get attention? I try and give her as much attention as possible....but during the week I have as many as 4 other kids. I can't do one on one time with her all day.
My mum had all of us potty trained by 18 months...and she said with other kids in the house it's sometimes harder to train. So I'm wondering if maybe this is it?
Tomorrow is another day with kids....only 2 extra's...so I guess I will figure it out....
i have a 3.5 yr old girl and she's familiar with and will do with the 1 and 2s on the pot, but she still isn't ready for the big league (as in being a full time player). diapers mean total undivided attention at changing time. i nursed her until she was 23 months and i had medical needs for medications that were not compatible.
soo..my theory for my own situation is that: she NEVER had a paci, NEVER had a blankie she took to or even a fuzzy animal that she favored to the point of need. the diapers. they are the last vestige of being my baby, my only baby. before i know it, we'll be at 4!!!! i keep telling myself that she wont be in diapers in college. then... i really start to wonder. this is seeming like a really slow process for me. i feel really behind, even though she is of "normal" (whatever normal means...) intelligence and doesn't have a comprehension or mechanics issue with mr. potty or what we are prompting her to do there.
i just think it's a scary thing, maybe her first fear of growing up.
we've been in possession of a free standing potty and toilet seat since her 18 month period. she could do it then. it's almost like it's old hat and... very curiously a control struggle.
my mother's neighbor's daughter is two months younger than my own and was trained about 8 months ago... they thought. huge regression ensued that actually is finally resolving now, but only with the help of a three day preschool that is helping pave the way. they are REALLY pushy folks though.
unfortunately, we don't have the money for this situation, i'm disabled and cannot work, some days i just cry (hiding it pretty well) from the pain that being a stay at home mom causes for my condition. good lord! to not have to hunker down 5-6 times a day to diaper a wriggling electric child... i can't imagine. i'm just not great at being demanding and i may need to hone up on it, frankly. because i'm starting to feel that there is a little manipulation going on here on her part. it doesn't frustrate me, i understand well, i think... i just may need to try to make the whole deal more competitive than i have.
anyway- phew... that was long. 26 months may be a feat. it's really about you and your babe though. if you know she is capable and is gaining self confidence by being in control of such a big deal in life, then keep on. not pressuring of course, but working and encouraging potty learning. just make sure you hear her loud and clear.
i wouldn't necessarily give it a total break, because you've made some major hurdles go bye bye. there are times of regression, but i woudn't take no for an answer if i really felt mine was 100% ready and capable. if the problem is around other peers,
could it be embarrassment or shame about the entire subject? if so, maybe a copy of "everybody poops" would help.. even if it's a re-read.
good luck!!
