Cold turkey I've also read works, but you have to be prepared to have 2-4 days of a very unhappy child at bed time.....if you can her to just give it (mail in envelope) to other "babies who need it"....I've heard much success with that one....I had one parent tell me the Easter Bunny took it and left a basket of Goodies in stead.......
This is my only child, so I don't know what truly works...I'll let you know how long I survived!!
Good luck!
I think I am going to go with the proverbial 'band-aid' method and get rid of them all at once. Unfortunately she isn't much of an altruist, so sending them off and telling her that other children need them more won't work, I am certain. I think I am going to have to have them just 'disappear' one day.
I just have to finally choose the day. And then I have to deal with nap time and bedtime being absolute nightmares for a while.
I am sure you'll all hear her screams and shouts wherever in the world you are when the day does finally come to say goodbye to the sucky-suckies.
Fun.

I've been having the same issue with my daughter. She's 16 months and totally dependent on her binky! Recently I've only been giving it to her before she naps and before she sleeps but she'll go around looking for it at times "Wheeeh awhhh uuueeh? Minnn waah ueeh?" after her morning bottle and I just try to get her to forget about by getting her interesting in a book or blocks or toys.
I'm tempted to stop giving her them at night, but afraid at the same time.
My 3 yr old was much easier. The day she turned 2 1/2, I told her that since she was potty trained and no longer a baby, she couldnt have her binkers anymore. She cried at night for a few days and asked for it a couple time, but that was it.
Best wishes and good luck!
One suckie-suckie down, one more to go. It's the last one that's going to be a the worst (obviously).
The one to go yesterday was the duck. She's asked a few times where the 'quack-quack' was and I've said it is 'missing'. She shook her head knowingly and acknowledges it 'missing'.
Now for the last on: the red dog.
When I shall be brave enough to wait out the proverbial storm when that one goes 'missing' too, I dunno.
Soon.
Good luck to everyone else. I know you'll need it.
The time when we have issues is at night, but tonight (night 2) we had to problems. I wouldn't even tell her that you need to give them to other kids, or the paci fairy or whatever else. Just throw them away and when she screams for it just say "No, we don't have it anymore" then try to avert her attention elsewhere.
It's hard to hear them cry, but it will only last a day or so.
