Super Nanny told a child that it was time to send the pacifier to a magic land and in return would receive a special gift made for big kids and put it in the mailbox before bed. She replaced it with a gift and sprinkled confetti and glittery stuff inside the box..The child went for it and was totally impressed when she woke up and looked in the mailbox. I think that the child felt grown up and a sense of a right of passage...This was a show, but I was impressed myself and can see how it could work without a war.

we finally just cut the tip of our daughters off and she used it that way for a while and then mu husband got upset one day cause she wouldn't take it out of her mouth to talk and when he got it he cut more of it off and she didn't like it but she hasn't used one in a month tomorrow. Granted she quit napping on a regular basis and nights became rough again for a while but she was okay through out he day without it and at bed time. it was jsut in the night when she woke up. Maybe when she falls asleep take it, through it in the garbage and get her a new teddy or something. My baby just turned 2 injan and I would love to get rid of it, we started pottie training 2 months ago so when thats done I;ll work on the sucky

I took my daughters pacifier away at 14 months. I was tired of looking for the thing everytime it got lost. Anyway, Instead of her having her pacifier to sleep with I gave her a blankie. And now she can chose what she want's to sleep with at age 2 1/2.
