Our little boy did this too but pretty much outgrew it. I think it may be a while yet before she will focus at one thing and possibly is loving the fact that she is able to throw things about and make a mess. Its all about cause and effect at that age so she is learning even if its driving you mad.

It's her age. They can't focus on anything at 13 mos. My son is 23 mos and still does it to some extent but he does help pick up and will focus a little longer on things. We started early with putting stuff away but at the end of play, not as he went. Good luck. I keep my house pretty tidy but there are times it looks like a tornado went through it.

I agree at that age its near impossible to keep them from pulling or dumping things out. My child did it. To some extent still does. I think she will eventually outgrow it. In the meantime My advice would be to clear the things out that you dont want her to have and just let her go. Clean up in intervals during a snack during lunch during dinner Have your spouse bathe her and clean the living room during the bath throw some different size plastic cups or bowls in the tub or whatever you can find suitable from your kitchen or during naps. Or take a few toys outside for her to play with and just follow her around outside. Rake the leaves up in a pile and let her smash thru them. Maybe check the mail together or take her to her bedroom shut the door and play games with her toys allowing her to just pull things out, let her messup her room(it can always be cleaned) together fill up a box up with blocks or other toys and let her dump them out again or let her watch you hide one of her toys and let her pull it back out. Give as many opertunities a day for her to pull things out. Like your getting a pan from the cabinet or you drop the remote in between something simple stuff you know she can handle.

Well, get used to it :0). My DD is 22 months and does that same thing. We call her hurricane Izabella. She will plow through a room quicker then you can blink your eyes. I too think, wow, she can't focus on anything. The one thing that does keep her down for a bit is reading to her. She loves books. Even watching her fav show (Mickey) only occupies her for a few mins. Not suggesting that you plop her in front of the tube, just an exp of how extreme. So, at 13 months, their attention span isn't that long. And look at it as she is exploring and adventurous...lol

I have a 19 month old girl and a 3 year boy and we call them the tornadic twosome. We pick up and they follow behind with a whole new path of destruction.

Our son we are working with on helping us pick up and in the process our daughter has caught on as well. We sing the pick up song and we don't move on to the next big task (coloring, books etc) until what we are playing with is picked up.

I use to pick up the general stuff all day long but now I just pick up twice a day (nap and bedtime). I figure that in a couple more years when they have both mastered stairs most of the stuff with find it's way into their rooms. Until then I just deal with the clutter and the occasional stepping on batman or elmo.
