We bought our 1st son (when he was 2) a kitchen playset. It was rather large and expensive, but he loved it. Next came baby #2, a boy, and he has played with it since he could stand!The two of them will play with it for hours. Plus when other kids come over, it is the first thing they play with. I have been able to do laundry, work on the computer, cook and talk on the phone all because they are busy playing "kitchen". My boys are also into dirt bikes, cars, tractors and "typical boy things". I also bought my 4 year old a cash register which goes nicely with all the groceries from the kitchen.
Best money we have spent so far on any toy! We have had it for 2 years now and they still aren't tired of it!

There is nothing wrong with a kitchen for boys. Men have just as much place in the kitchen. It's not like your son will turn out gay. It is also good for little boys to have baby dolls, it helps them be more sensitive. My son has one.

MY BOYFRIEND IS THE SAME WAY. HE DONT THINK HIS LITTLE BOY SHOULD PLAY WITH GIRL TOYS. I TOLD HIM TO JAY JAY ITS JUST TOYS. I LET HIM PLAY WITH BABY DOLLS WHEN HIS DADDYS NOT AROUND. I FIGURE IF YOU SHOW HIM HOW TO PLAY WITH A BABY DOLL HE WONT BE SO ROUGH WITH HIS BABY BROTHER.

I have a daughter who has never ever ever played with so called girl toys. I bought them all and even bought her a barbie. All she wants is Thomas the Tank Engine and anything sports oriented. Could you imagine if I refused to allow her to play with the stuff she likes? Barbie would have lost her head and those poor unplayed with cabbage patch dolls would have become headless as well due to their round head resembling a ball.

Do what you think is right. I say yes to the kitchen, maybe in blue?

My daughter has no desire to play with hers but my 2 1/2 year old son loves it. So your son is interested in cooking--maybe we'll be the lucky ones and have a Wolfgang Puck in our families! I have a cousin who is a chef and he loves his job and I love for him to cook for me! On the practical side, though, I plan on teaching my son to be self-sufficient: able to cook a meal if he's hungry, pick up after himself and do laundry if he needs to. Honestly, if we are teaching our daughters to grow up to be independent women, we have to start with the men! If they don't learn to look after themselves, we'll continue to take pity on them and do everything for them!
Let your son have a kitchen if he wants one and you want him to have one...besides, they have pretend barbeque grills, which is cooking, so what is the difference....good luck....

maybe he wants to be a chef. the mext wolfgang!! I see nothing wrong with it. my son carrries around my daughters little purse. he puts his truck in it. It only a big deal if you make it into one. My 19 month old has a 8 year old sister.

My son loves his play kitchen! Its a great teaching tool. My husband was okay with it as long as it wasn't pink or purple. Maybe your husband is afraid you'll get him a really girly looking one? But, there are lots that are neutral colors now. And, you're right it will keep him from getting under your feet while you're cooking. :)

I have a kitchen playset for my kids, there is nothing wrong with having one for a boy. My sons school has one for the kids. Go head and get him one, it will be good for him. I think the fact that you son loves the one at your mother in laws and there is one at his daycare should be enough to "sell" the idea to your husband. He is playing with one anyways, he really enjoys it, so why not get him one. He may even play with it like my son does, driving his cars all over it and hiding them inside.

Ha ha, oneother! That is what he does sometimes. My mother in law is a child development specialist and has lots of grandkids. She has all sorts of boy and girl toys and keeps them out so the kids can choose what they want to play with. She has this doll house. One day, we were setting up furniture in it (that was for me, not him). My DH came in the room and was like "What the hell are you doing? my son doesn't play with doll houses" Then 5 minutes later, he came back through and he was driving a bulldozer through the doll house!!! LOL

My son had a doll he got it for his first birthday we named him buddy it was a boy cabagge patch. He has all kinds of outfits... police man firefitter emt ect. most the time he is just naked lol. My some is 14 now and still has buddy. He would take buddy and go off and do MANLY things like fight fires and bust bad people. Buddy was always his side kick playmate when his friends couldnt play. There is nothing feminin about my son. He plays multiple positions on the foot ball team and is very much a guy! he had a kitchen too... He has no gender identity problems

I am a single mom and my ex sees my son occasionally. Kyle spends so much time with me (I only work 2 24 hour shifts a week so we get 5 uninterupted days together) and he sees me as his roll model. I am a firefighter so I don't think he is getting stricktly female impressions from me. My ex hates when my son calls his backpack a purse and likes to pretend he is blowdrying his hair. I mean these are things he watches me do everyday it is normal to want to copy the behaviors he sees. Your son sees you cook. Does your husbandknow that most chefs are men? Remind him that if your son wants tobe a cook, a garbage man, or a hairdresser. He is still your son and I promise you will still love him. Anyway the toys you buy him now are not going to impact his gender roles later. I have 4 Brothers and only had boy toys. I am a girly girl and matchbox cars and GI Joe did not affect who I am today. Trust your gut. Also look around in your area there are cooking classes you can take with your toddler, get your husband on board and go as a family. It not only gives you quality time together, but it does wonders in teaching your child to follow directions and there is always a yummy reward for all the hard work. Buy the kitchen. They have fire station play houses, would he not buy one if you hada girl? It is 2007 gender roles in the home are blurred, there are stay at home dads, dads who work from home and do the domestic chores. Come on Mr. Cali123 I am no women's rights activist but crawl out from under the rock. I am sure he is a wonderful man, but you son will grow up to be who he is supposed to be no matter what toys you buy him now.

there is nothing wrong with it! well is it pink? they have the tan and green one. my son is the same way he loves playing in is cousins kitchen. if he enjoys it let him do it. let him be who he is. a lot of parents try to control what there kids are interested in and not letting them be who they are. all that dose is push them a way later.

I see no harm in buying him a kitchen if thats what he really wants. My son was so excited when the Dora talking dollhouse came out. My husband was so against it as well but after some serious talking the he is only a child and he needs to see that men can cook and have femine qualites as well as girls. And it does no harm to them.

i want one for our son so bad. he's almost 3. he loves the one at the doc's office. they have boy type ones now. my husband just gives me agrivated looks when i talk about getting him one. our son watches cooking shows with me and watches me cook. so i know what you mean..unfortunately i don't really have to much advice for you.
