I just wanted to know if anyone found a lotion that worked well for the skin? And I wondered why it was worst around the top of her diaper?
Our son has eczema in his diaper area, back, tummy, cheeks and sometimes arms and legs, but it only gets really red in the winter. Other months it is just rough to the touch. We put Baby Aquaphor on it (we tried Aveeno and it did nothing for us) and I find that it works really well if I do it multiple times a day. I bought a giant tub of it and I put it on every time I change his diaper. Also, it's very important that after you give her a bath, that you get some good lotion (like Aquaphor) on the eczema spots right away before completely drying her off. It helps lock in the moisture. Also, keep her baths luke-warm as hot baths can irritate the skin and also limit the time she spends in the bath as much as possible as soaking in the tub is bad for it.
If the eczema starts cracking/opening up or she seems to be really bothered by it, bring her to the doc. Ours told us that the OTC 1% cortisone cream would be the next step if things got bad, but I would check with your doctor before trying it as there are limits to how long/how often you can use it.
Good luck! Hope her skin starts getting better!
i see that you are using aveeno naturals on her, but about the rest of your stuff? if you are putting her in jammies or on sheets that are washed with a laundry detergent that has chemicals it is kinda destroying the effects of the lotion and body wash. that was a mistake that i was making.
we decided to just go clean all the way around in our home. our cleaners, the kids body wash and shampoo, our body wash and control, the laundry detergent and dryer sheets. basically everything. his eczema was also almost totally gone within a matter of days. I buy all of our stuff from an online club so it doesnt cost so much. the same store also has this amazing dry skin set. it has a bath oil, hand wash, body wash, and even a lotion. its supposed to be 8 times more effective than eucerin, or something along those lines. I use it on my legs after shaving and on my son and it is amazing. it absorbs really quickly and there is NO mineral oil in it.
actually they are letting their customers refer other people this month and letting their club membership only be $1 (there is a membership just like a club like sams or costco) but they are letting other customers refer 2 new people and letting their memberships only be $1, so if you want to give it a whirl, let me know! i will refer you. if it doesnt end up working you can just cancel the account. lol.
I don't online order. I'm trying to set up paypal so I can get a gift for someone and it is frusterating beyond belief! However, if nothing else works I may have to find out the site from you and take a peek.
For baths. drop some olive oil in the water. and wash her with oatmeal soap.
after her bath, rub eucerin "calming cream" on her body.
if she doesn't get that dirty limit baths to once or twice a week.
When she gets older the bathing can be once every other day. and use wipes if she really needs some cleaning.
I know this might be a given, but anything with perfume is a no go.
Throughout the process I did find the best non-steroid cream to be Spectro Kids Eczema cream (makers of Spectro gel). There is also a wash. The cream is nice and thick. But we are in Canada so I am not sure if the same products are available down south?
